Fred Louis Eilert

Frederick “Fred” Louis Eilert, 85, of La Grange, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2013.
Fred was born in Hallettsville, Texas on June 1, 1928, the son of the late Earnest A. and Hilda (Klare) Eilert.
Fred served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952. He was employed as an Engineering Technician with the Texas Highway Dept. and retired after 35 years of service. He was a past commander and sergeant of VFW Post 5254, chaplain for the American Legion #102, president of the La Grange Little League, chairman of the Cub Scouts, secretary of the Lutheran Men in Mission at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, member of the Lions Club, Fayette Memorial and St. Mark’s Medical Center hospital auxiliary.
Fred was an avid sportman who enjoyed bird hunting, upland game hunting, fresh water fishing and camping. He was a devout Leopards’ sports fan.
He is survived by four sons: Kenneth “Ken” Eilert and wife, Karen, of Seguin; John Eilert and wife, Barbara; George Eilert and wife, Irma; Glenn Eilert and wife, Tammy all of La Grange; two stepsons: Arthur Schmidt and wife, Beverly; Joseph Schmidt and wife, Dawn all of Patchogu, N.Y.; five grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; and several step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Annette (Albrecht) Eilert; and second wife, Betty (Gorman) Schmidt Eilert.
