Biography

Alice Zigal Sulik, 92, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2010 at her home in Manchaca, Texas. Prior to moving to the Austin area, Alice lived in Houston for 63 years. She and her husband were founding members of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in the Garden Oaks area. She was a housewife and mother, Cub Scout leader, Girl Scout leader, altar society member from 1943 to 1968 until she opened her own florist shop, Flowertime Florist in 1968. She finally sold the shop after 36 years and retired in 2004.

Alice was born in Plum, Texas on September 9, 1917, the daughter of the late Emil F. and Lillie (Blaha) Zigal.

She is survived by one son J. Roy Sulik and wife Sydney of Manchaca, Texas; one daughter Carol Jean Hopkins and husband Orville, affectionately known by friends and family as “Pinky” of Spring, Texas; and one sister Joyce Rohde of Port Lavaca, Texas. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank J. Sulik, Jr., who passed away in November, 1976. Frank had been a teacher in Mullins Prairie and Plum for six years before moving to Houston in 1943 to work for Reed Roller Bit Co. for 33 years.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 – 2:00 P.M. on Monday, February 15, 2010 at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home prior to the funeral service at 2:00 P.M. Burial will follow at Plum Catholic Cemetery in Plum, Texas. Food will be served after the service at the Plum Church Hall.
